Medical Tourism In Surabaya Ready To Launch, Mayor Eri Cahyadi: God Willing, People Choose To Seek Treatment In Their Own Country

JAKARTA - Medical tourism in the city of Surabaya, East Java, is ready to be launched on September 27, 2021, following the selection of the City of Heroes as a pilot project for medical tourism with DKI Jakarta and Medan City.

Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi said the Surabaya City Government had communicated and discussed with the rectors and the Indonesian Hospital Association (Persi) regarding the selection of the City of Heroes as a pilot project or a medical tourism pilot project.

"So, God willing, in relation to the health industry in the city of Surabaya, we will launch it on September 27, 2021," said Eri, quoted from Antara, Friday, September 17.

Eri Cahyadi said that his party knew that Surabaya was a pilot project for medical tourism when attending the Kata Kreatif event at the Bumi Surabaya City Resort Hotel, Thursday, September 16.

He believes that the election of Surabaya as a pilot project for medical tourism will make people who previously traveled abroad to choose health services in the country. Especially health services in the city of Surabaya.

"We have done all the steps, we just need to implement the 3G that was mentioned by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga, namely gercep, geber, gas pol," he said.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno previously said that based on the available data, many Surabaya residents received medical services abroad.

Therefore, he continued, the City of Surabaya along with two other cities, namely DKI Jakarta and Medan City, were selected to be the pilot project for medical tourism in Indonesia.

"We have just established three cities as pilot projects for medical tourism. In the midst of this pandemic, it is the right time to reorganize," said Sandiaga Uno.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy explained that through medical tourism, the government wants to encourage medical industry services in Indonesia. Especially in the city of Surabaya to be even better. So, people have many choices to get the best health services.
