JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed the budget allocation for the education, social protection (perlinsos), and food security sectors in 2027 to reach Rp. 1,566 trillion.

Meanwhile, the government allocated around Rp820.9 trillion for education, Rp549.9 trillion for perlinsos, and Rp195.3 trillion for food security.

Purbaya explained that the education budget still fulfilled the mandate of the 1945 Constitution which requires the government to allocate at least 20 percent of the state budget for the education sector.

He added that the budget was directed to expanding access while improving the quality of education evenly.

"So, we will implement it in 2027, among others, to increase access and quality of education that is equitable for all people through PIP to 22.1 million students and PIP for college to 1.1 million students," said Purbaya in a press conference, quoted Sunday, August 16.

He explained that from the total education budget of Rp. 820.9 trillion, the government would finance a number of priority programs, namely the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP) for 22.1 million students, KIP Kuliah for 1.1 million students, Teacher Profession Allowance (TPG) Non-Civil Servants for 1.3 million teachers, and the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program for 60.6 million recipients.

In addition, the government has also allocated a budget for the construction of seven Garuda Excellent Schools and People's Schools.

"We will also build Garuda superior schools and people's schools, improve the quality of learning through free nutritious meals, and so on as the President has said," he added.

According to Purbaya, the perlinsos budget is an important instrument to protect the public from various social risks, maintain purchasing power, increase the economic capacity of poor and vulnerable groups, and reduce poverty, including extreme poverty.

"The 2027 perlinsos budget reaches Rp. 559.9 trillion to grow 10 percent compared to 2026," he explained.

For the food security sector, the government has prepared a budget of around Rp195.3 trillion in 2027 which will be used to support various programs to increase agricultural production and productivity.

The programs to be financed include the development of 2.7 million hectares of rice fields, the printing of 100,000 hectares of rice fields, the optimization of 200,000 hectares of agricultural land, assistance for agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan) pre-harvest sub-sector of food crops of 23,528 units, and revitalization of salt land with an area of 616 hectares.

"The food security budget is also still high at Rp. 195.3 trillion, growing by around 2.3 percent compared to the same budget in 2026," he explained.
