North Botteng Affected by Drought, 12,000 Liters of Clean Water Dispensed

Residents of North Botteng Village in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province, who were affected by drought received 12,000 liters of clean water from the Ministry of Public Works (PU).

The assistance was distributed through the Emergency Response Center for Building, Infrastructure and Area Arrangement (BPBPK) of the Directorate General of Construction, as a response to the limited access to clean water experienced by the community.

In its distribution, BPBPK West Sulawesi deployed three units of Water Tank Cars (MTA) and two units of Public Hidran (HU).

This step was taken to ensure that people's basic needs are met during the drought.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the availability of quality water has an important role for people's lives as well as economic, social and environmental development.

Dody assessed that the issue of water access is increasingly important for regions that face water resource constraints and the impact of climate change.

"In the midst of a world that is constantly changing and full of uncertainty, water is a very important foundation for sustainable development," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Friday, August 14.

Head of BPBPK West Sulawesi Wahyu Tri Nugroho said that handling emergency conditions requires a quick and coordinated response so that the needs of affected communities can be met immediately.

"We are trying to provide a response as quickly as possible to the needs of people affected by drought, especially in meeting the needs of clean water," he said.

He said that clean water assistance was part of the commitment of BPBPK West Sulawesi to provide support to the community facing emergency conditions.

In addition to meeting short-term water needs, the distribution of assistance is also expected to be part of the integrated handling of the impact of drought.

According to Wahyu, this effort is carried out through coordination with local governments and related parties.

The Ministry of PU assesses that water availability is becoming increasingly important amid the threat of water resource constraints and climate change.

Dody previously said that areas with water constraints needed support so that the community could still have access to quality water services.

The PU Ministry is also committed to responding to the community's need for clean water during the dry conditions in North Botteng Village.
