BPS Records IPH Decreased in 21 Provinces in Early August 2026, Ras Chicken Meat Still to Be Wary of

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the development of food prices in the first week of August 2026 showed a positive trend. A total of 21 provinces in Indonesia experienced a decrease in the Price Development Index (IPH), indicating that the majority of areas recorded better stability of food commodity prices compared to the previous week.

Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that in general, the number of areas that recorded a decrease in food prices was much higher than the areas that experienced an increase.

"Around 21 provinces have experienced a decline in IPH. Starting from South Papua, Riau Islands, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, and so on," Amalia said in a Regional Inflation Coordination Meeting which was monitored online in Jakarta, Monday (10/8/2026).

10 Regions with the Highest IPH Decrease

At the district and city levels, the decline in IPH also dominated. BPS recorded that there were 161 districts/cities that experienced a decline in IPH, while 65 other districts/cities experienced an increase.

"So those who experience a decrease in IPH are much more than those who experience an increase," said Amalia.

The 10 regencies/cities that recorded the most significant decline in IPH at the beginning of August 2026 include:

BPS Concerned with Chicken Meat and Beef

Despite the widespread trend of declining IPH, BPS still urges local governments to be aware of a number of food commodities that still show a spike in prices. Chicken meat and beef are the two main commodities that contribute to the increase in IPH in various regions.

Regionally, BPS maps the focus of commodities that need to be watched as follows:

Sumatra Island: The price increase is mainly triggered by the commodity of pure chicken meat and rice. Java Island: The main focus is on the commodity of pure chicken meat and beef. Outside Java and Sumatra: The increase in IPH is dominated by sweet peas, pure chicken meat, and beef.

Rice and Cooking Oil Commodities Still High

Amalia added that the analysis of food price developments was also carried out based on the average price level and the magnitude of the IPH change.

Several commodities such as beef and garlic are at a moderate price level with a low IPH change. On the other hand, rice and cooking oil commodities still remain at a relatively high price level, even in some areas the price is monitored to exceed the Highest Retail Price (HET).

Meanwhile, for purebred chicken meat, BPS noted a special phenomenon where the price level is relatively low, but the rate of price increase (change in IPH) is moving quite high.

"The condition of this purebred chicken meat needs special attention because it shows a tendency to increase prices quite aggressively even though the current price level is still relatively low," concluded Amalia.
