Prabowo Targets Indonesian-Thai Trade to Reach 20 Billion US Dollars by 2030

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Thailand are targeting a trade value of 20 billion US dollars by 2030. The target will be pursued through the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026-2030.

President Prabowo Subianto conveyed this after meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, August 3.

Prabowo said economic cooperation remained the main pillar of relations between the two countries.

"We are optimistic that the trade target of USD20 billion in 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Roadmap," said Prabowo.

According to Prabowo, Indonesia and Thailand agreed to expand investment, increase market access, and strengthen partnerships between business actors.

The two countries will also hold a Joint Trade Commission for the first time in history. This forum will be used to discuss business opportunities as well as resolve trade barriers.

Indonesia and Thailand also agreed to increase cooperation in food security. The scope ranges from agricultural technology, logistics, food processing, to supply chain resilience.

In the energy sector, Prabowo encouraged the holding of the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum. The forum is aimed at strengthening energy resilience and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy through collaboration between the government and the business world.

Prabowo also mentioned that digital economy was discussed. One of the things that will be encouraged is the use of Local Currency Transaction or LCT.

LCT is a transaction using the local currency of each country. This mechanism can help trade and investment to be more efficient because it does not always depend on third-party currencies.

Indonesia and Thailand also see opportunities for cooperation in the halal industry. Prabowo said both countries have their own advantages in the sector.

According to Prabowo, this advantage can be used to support each other in building regional and global halal industry chains.

In the field of connectivity, Prabowo welcomed the opening of new direct flight routes between Jakarta-Bangkok and Denpasar-Phuket.

The route is expected to strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries and open up greater space for tourism and business.
