JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI Group recorded an improvement in operational performance in Semester I-2026.
This is reflected in the growth in revenue which reached IDR 17.96 trillion or an increase of 6.61 percent compared to the same period last year of IDR 16.85 trillion.
Based on the financial statements (unaudited) of KAI Group, the increase in revenue also contributed to the gross profit growth of 18.81 percent to Rp6.79 trillion from the previous Rp5.72 trillion.
Meanwhile, net profit increased 25.79 percent to Rp4.66 trillion compared to the first semester of 2025 of Rp3.71 trillion.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that this growth shows that the main business of the KAI Group continues to strengthen in line with the increase in services, productivity, cost management efficiency, and the synergy of all company entities.
"Revenue and operating profit growth are important capital for KAI to maintain travel safety, readiness of facilities and infrastructure, and quality of service to the public. Strong business performance also supports the sustainability of passenger and cargo service development," Anne said in an official statement, Monday, August 3.
The strengthening of operational performance is also seen from the increasing number of customers.
Throughout Semester I-2026, the KAI Group served 258,993,359 customers or grew 7.55 percent compared to the same period last year of 240,805,920 customers.
The services include commercial trains, Public Service Obligation (PSO), Pioneer Trains, to various government assignments.
Of the total customers, 235,137,908 customers or around 90.79 percent come from services that run the PSO scheme, KA Perintis, and government assignments.
Anne said the large share of customers on subsidized services and government assignments reflected KAI's strategic role in providing safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation for the community.
"The Government's trust through PSO, KA Perintis, and various assignments gives KAI room to serve the community more broadly. KAI ensures that these services remain safe, reliable, orderly, and meet customer needs," he said.
Apart from passenger services, the freight business also continues to support the company's performance.
Until Semester I 2026, KAI transported 32,498,043 tons of goods, consisting of 26,534,095 tons of coal and 5,963,948 tons of non-coal commodities.
To strengthen logistics services, KAI has brought in 1,080 flat cars to increase the capacity of freight transportation in Sumatra.
The Company is also developing the Brumbung Cargo train service with a capacity of up to 800 tons per set.
Meanwhile, container transport throughout Semester I 2026 reached around 2.62 million tons.
"Freight services play an important role in supporting national economic activities. Strengthening facilities and services continues to be carried out so that trains can serve the needs of the business world more efficiently while helping to maintain the smooth distribution of strategic commodities," said Anne.
In terms of finances, the total assets of the KAI Group as of June 30, 2026 were recorded at Rp. 104.79 trillion.
Liabilities decreased to IDR 65.11 trillion from IDR 66.14 trillion at the end of 2025, while equity increased to IDR 39.69 trillion from IDR 39.29 trillion.
The company's current assets also increased to Rp21.04 trillion compared to Rp19.40 trillion at the end of last year.
On the other hand, short-term liabilities decreased to Rp15.17 trillion from Rp16.20 trillion, so that current assets remained above short-term liabilities.
In Semester I 2026, the KAI Group recorded a profit before tax of IDR 842.69 billion and an annual profit of IDR 314.03 billion.
The decrease in net profit compared to the same period last year was mainly influenced by the increase in the recording of net loss from associate companies and joint ventures.
However, KAI Group's main business still recorded revenue, gross profit, and operating profit growth.
In line with this, KAI continues to carry out corporate transformation in line with the BUMN transformation agenda with Danantara Indonesia.
The strengthening is focused on increasing productivity, operational efficiency, governance, modernization of facilities and services, utilization of technology, and the development of human resource competencies.
"Transformations and synergies with Danantara encourage KAI to be more disciplined in increasing productivity, strengthening governance, and developing employee competencies. Every strengthening of the company's performance is directed back to provide safe, reliable, easily accessible transportation services, as well as benefit the community and the national economy," concluded Anne.
