JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has started testing two Nusantara Explorer Luxury Sleeper Trains which have completed the interior work phase at the Yasa Hall in Surabaya Gubeng.
The testing was carried out as part of the evaluation process before the development of the series was continued to the next stage.
Both trains have undergone static tests to check the function of the system and facilities when the train stops, as well as dynamic tests on the Surabaya Gubeng-Lamongan return trip.
Dynamic testing is carried out to evaluate the performance of the train while operating, ranging from stability, braking systems, electricity, to the function of various supporting facilities.
KAI Corporate Communication Vice President Anne Purba said that Nusantara Explorer is still in the development and improvement phase gradually at the Yasa Surabaya Gubeng Hall.
"From the development plan of a series consisting of 12 trains, currently two trains have completed the interior work stage and undergone static and dynamic tests. The results of the test will be evaluated for the next improvement process," Anne said in an official statement, Sunday, July 26.
Anne explained that Nusantara Explorer was designed as a luxury sleeper train that combines private resting areas, personal service, cuisine, entertainment, and the experience of enjoying the landscape along the way.
The train will consist of 12 trains, including sleeping cabins, Grand Restaurant, lounges, and operational support trains. All development and modification processes of facilities are concentrated at the Yasa Surabaya Gubeng Hall.
"Nusantara Explorer shows the ability of Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng workers to develop facilities with increasingly diverse service concepts. The technical experience and accuracy of workers are an important part of every stage of work," he said.
KAI designed the Nusantara Explorer with three categories of sleeping cabins, namely Signature Class, Advance Class, and Compact Class.
Signature Class offers a wider cabin space with private facilities, Advance Class prioritizes the balance between comfort and space efficiency, while Compact Class comes with a more compact design but still prioritizes passenger comfort.
In addition to the sleeping cabin, this series will also be equipped with a Grand Restaurant which is designed as a culinary service room with table arrangements, lighting, and private dining rooms.
KAI also prepares a lounge equipped with comfortable chairs, a bar, entertainment facilities, a piano, an audio system, and panoramic windows to enjoy the scenery during the journey.
Anne said the identity of Indonesian culture became one of the main concepts in the development of the Nusantara Explorer interior.
Cultural elements are presented through the wayang kulit motif, Batik Lasem, Sekar Jagad, to the Bali motif applied to decorative elements, materials, and color choices.
"The identity of Indonesian culture is part of the concept of the Nusantara Explorer experience. Spaces, motifs, cuisine, and services are developed so that customers can experience the Nusantara character during the journey," explained Anne.
After the testing of the two trains is completed, KAI will continue to carry out technical evaluations, facility improvements, and other train work according to the development stages.
The company emphasized that information regarding the route, schedule, tariff, final composition of the series, to the operational time of the new Nusantara Explorer will be announced after all the development, testing, inspection, and service preparation processes are completed.
