JAKARTA - The bullion service run by PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and PT Pegadaian has collected gold up to 153 tons with a value of close to US$20 billion.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the achievement was reported to President Prabowo Subianto in the Plenary Cabinet Meeting.
"Launching bullion last year to today has reached 153 tons of gold. The value is close to 20 billion dollars," said Airlangga at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (20/7).
He said the President also asked other countries that had launched bullion services with governance as applied by Indonesia through BSI and Pegadaian.
According to Airlangga, the total gold managed by Pegadaian reached 153 tons, while BSI's bullion service had collected 24 tons.
However, Airlangga did not explain whether the figure was the total gold stored in the entire bullion ecosystem or came from the services of each institution.
