JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded positive performance throughout Semester I 2026 by serving 258,993,359 customers across all KAI Group services or an increase of 7.55 percent compared to the same period last year which reached 240,805,920 customers.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the increase in the number of customers showed the public's high confidence in the train transportation mode, both for commuter travel, intercity travel, access to airports, tourism, and mobility in urban areas.

"Throughout Semester I 2026, the KAI Group served 258.99 million customers. This figure shows that the train is increasingly chosen by the public for safe, affordable, and integrated travel. For KAI, this growth needs to be accompanied by an increase in safety, service quality, and wider benefits for the community," said Bobby in his statement, quoted Sunday, July 5.

On long-distance and local train services operated by KAI, the number of customers reached 29,858,267 people or grew 8.72 percent compared to Semester I 2025 with 27,463,555 customers.

Meanwhile, KAI Commuter serves 204,151,200 customers or an increase of 6.58 percent compared to the same period last year which reached 191,540,583 customers.

Growth also occurred in the Jabodebek LRT service, which transported 16,018,911 customers or increased by 22.84 percent compared to Semester I 2025. In South Sulawesi, the Makassar-Parepare train service serves 172,015 customers or increased by 15.44 percent, while KAI Wisata recorded the highest growth by serving 164,743 customers or jumped 64.45 percent.

Bobby assessed that the increase showed the public's increasing need for railway services, which are not only used for work and school, but also for business trips, tourism, access to airports, and further trips integrated with other modes of transportation.

"KAI Group continues to strengthen services according to the characteristics of customers in each segment. There are commuter customers who need accuracy and capacity, intercity customers who need comfort, tourist customers who are looking for travel experiences, and regional communities who need affordable public transportation," said Bobby.

During Semester I 2026, KAI also introduced a number of new services, namely the company began operating the Sangkuriang train on the Bandung-Ketapang route, round trip, starting May 1, 2026, which opened direct access from West Java to Banyuwangi via Yogyakarta, Solo, Surabaya, and a number of cities in the southern and eastern cross-sections of Java Island.

In addition, KAI launched the Pandalungan 2 train between Gambir and Jember, round trip, starting June 18, 2026, to strengthen the connectivity between Jakarta and Jember, as well as add travel options to the Tapal Kuda area.

In the Jabodetabek area, the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station has started serving users of the Tanjung Priok Commuter Line since June 22, 2026, and in the first week of operation, the station has served 4,203 users, consisting of 2,555 departing customers and 1,648 disembarking customers.

KAI also increased the capacity of the Rajabasa train service between Kertapati and Tanjungkarang, namely from January to June 2026, the service served 439,984 customers or increased by 36.44 percent compared to the same period last year.

To accommodate the high demand of the community across South Sumatra-Lampung, the number of Rajabasa train series has been increased from five to eight trains and the addition has increased the seating capacity from 530 to 848 seats or an increase of about 60 percent.

The Company also operated additional Rajabasa train trips on a situational basis after the Christmas and New Year Transportation period, and thereafter, starting July 4, 2026, the service uses a Modified Premium Economy Train which offers more comfortable facilities, such as individual seats, central air conditioning, power outlets, and a better seating configuration for long-distance travel.

The expansion of access to services is also carried out by opening passenger boarding services at a number of stations, namely during April to June 2026, Comal Station serving 11,996 customers, Plabuan Station with 814 customers, and Rajapolah Station with 528 customers.

In the logistics sector, KAI transported 32,498,043 tons of goods throughout Semester I 2026. The volume consists of 26,534,095 tons of coal and 5,963,948 tons of non-coal commodities.

Meanwhile, to strengthen logistics services, until Semester I 2026 KAI has received an additional 1,080 flat cars to increase the capacity of freight transportation in Sumatra.

The company also presents the Brumbung Cargo train service as an alternative for more efficient national logistics distribution, namely throughout Semester I 2026, KAI container freight reached 2.62 million tons with a capacity of up to 800 tons in each series.

"Freight services are one of KAI's important contributions to the economy. Trains have advantages in capacity, schedule regularity, and cross-regional connectivity. Therefore, we continue to encourage the strengthening of freight services so that they can add value to the business world and the national supply chain," said Bobby.

In terms of safety, KAI managed to close 172 priority crossings throughout Semester I 2026 as part of efforts to reduce the risk of accidents and increase the safety of train travel and community activities around the railway line.

"Safety is the top priority in every KAI service. The closure of 172 priority crossings is an important step to reduce potential risks on the railway line. KAI will continue to strengthen coordination so that the arrangement of crossings runs well and provides greater protection for the community," said Bobby.

In addition, KAI continues to provide services that support the economic activities of the community, namely the Farmer-Trader Train on the Rangkasbitung-Merak route serving 26,074 customers from January to June 2026, and since it began operating in December 2025, the service has been used by 30,189 customers.

On the Kerakyatan Economic Train service, KAI recorded 56,908 customers throughout 2026, which came from the additional KA service of the Lempuyangan-Pasarsenen relationship during the Lebaran Transportation and the Cikuray KA relationship of Garut-Pasarsenen in June 2026.

"The Farmer's Merchant Train and the People's Economic Train were born out of the very real needs of the community. There are customers who bring production results, merchandise, business equipment, and daily travel needs. KAI wants services like this to continue to provide a disciplined, safe, and useful space for people's economic activities," said Bobby.

In the field of sustainability, KAI continues to accelerate energy transformation through the gradual use of biodiesel towards B50 as part of the 2025-2030 decarbonization roadmap. The program is projected to reduce emissions by 133,676 tons of CO₂e while maintaining operational reliability.

The Company also expands non-transportation revenue sources through the optimization of station assets and commercial space, including through the development of Space by KAI, the addition of tenants, and various business collaborations aimed at improving customer experience while opening up business opportunities for partners.

Bobby said that stations have an increasingly broad role as transportation nodes, public service spaces, commercial spaces, and community activity points. The development of station areas can add value for customers, open up business opportunities, and strengthen the economy around the station area.

"KAI sees the station as an important part of the travel ecosystem. Customers need good access, comfortable facilities, easy services, and spaces that add value. Therefore, strengthening services, digitization, safety, logistics, people's economy, low-emission energy, and the development of our station space are carried out as one agenda of transformation," said Bobby.
