JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has facilitated the first export of Maluku fishermen's fishery products to Thailand in the form of 11 tons of frozen tuna loin worth more than IDR1 billion, as part of efforts to expand the target countries for the export of Indonesian fishery products.
"This is our concrete step together with the local government to support economic growth through the expansion of export destinations," said Acting Head of the Agency for the Control and Supervision of the Quality of Fishery Products (Badan Mutu KKP) Ishartini, quoted from a written statement, Saturday, July 4.
The first export was carried out through the Yos Sudarso Port in Ambon, Maluku, on Thursday, July 2.
Ishartini explained that fishery products exported to Thailand have met international food quality and safety requirements through the Certificate of Quality and Safety of Fishery Products (SMKHP) issued by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
According to him, the certification has been recognized by the Codex Alimentarius, an international organization that sets standards for food quality and safety, so that it becomes a guarantee that Indonesian fishery products are safe to consume and meet the requirements of the destination country.
"The quality and safety of fishery products are one of the main keys to the acceptance of products in export destination countries," he said.
He explained that strengthening the quality assurance system is part of the government's strategy to increase competitiveness and expand export market access for national fishery products.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Maluku Provincial Industry and Trade Office, Ahmad Jais Ely, hopes that the first export will be a momentum to increase the sale of Maluku fisheries to the international market.
"At the time of departure, the Certificate of Quality and Safety of Fishery Products (SMKHP) was handed over as a mandatory document to be able to enter the Thai market," he said.
The KKP emphasized that the quality assurance system is one of the main factors in increasing the acceptance of Indonesian fishery products in the international market.
Strengthening quality assurance from upstream to downstream is considered important to encourage product diversification and expansion of export destinations, so that Indonesian fishery products have higher competitiveness in the global market.
