JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) reported that the Gamsunoro ship, which had been stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, had successfully crossed the critical point.
PIS Corporate Secretary Pjs. Vega Pita said that intensive cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, Iran has yielded positive results amid the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
"The Gamsunoro ship belonging to PIS, which had been held since the beginning of March 2026 due to the conflict between the United States and Iran, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 20.00 WIB, managed to cross the critical point of the Strait of Hormuz safely thanks to the collaboration of corporate emergency strategies and protection diplomacy," said Vega, Thursday, June 25.
Vega said that after traveling for 16 hours, the Gamsunoro ship began to move away from the Arabian Gulf, Wednesday at 01.06 Dubai time or around 04.06 WIB. The ship was traveling at a speed of 7.5 knots and arrived at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz around 13.00 local time or 16.00 WIB. Four hours later, the ship was declared to have successfully crossed the strait and reached a safe point.
Vega added that the decision to cross Gamsunoro was taken after the company conducted a strict risk assessment discussion over the past month, as well as intensive coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"We are grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, Iran, for their support so far. The selection of the time and route across the Strait of Hormuz has gone through very strict discussions and risk assessments. We have noted dozens of requirements that must be met by the ship, ranging from insurance, technical and operational aspects, security, to crew readiness, so it was decided that the ship could start moving from the Arabian Gulf," said Vega.
He added that the ship's voyage was monitored for 24 hours. The ship's crew at sea continued to coordinate with the team on land who were on standby at the PIS crisis center to ensure the safety of the voyage.
According to him, the company also continues to coordinate with various stakeholders and other related authorities to monitor the development of the situation in real time and ensure that all operational steps are carried out carefully.
Gamsunoro's success in crossing the Strait of Hormuz is considered to be part of PIS' efforts to maintain shipping operations amid global geopolitical uncertainties, especially in one of the world's most strategic energy distribution routes.
Meanwhile, another PIS fleet in the Gulf of Arabia, the Pertamina Pride VLCC, is currently in the preparation stage to move while still evaluating security developments, traffic conditions, density, and other risks as well as considering international recommendations.
"Thank you for the support and prayers of all parties and the Indonesian people for the Gamsunoro ship. We also ask for support and prayers for the Pertamina Pride VLCC so that it can immediately cross the Strait of Hormuz safely," concluded Vega.
