JAKARTA - Danantara Dony Oskaria Chief Operating Officer (COO) denied the issue that said the Indonesian people with savings above Rp3 billion were required to buy Patriot Bond or Merah Putih Bond.

He emphasized that the information was a lie or hoax.

According to Dony, until now there has never been a plan by the government or Danantara to require certain groups of people to buy investment instruments.

"That information is not true. The issue is a hoax. There is no government plan to require Indonesian people who have savings above Rp3 billion to buy Patriot Bonds or Red and White Bonds," said Dony in his statement, Friday, June 5.

The news emerged after the DPR RI passed a revision of the Law on Amendments to Law Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK).

One of the points in the regulation gives the authority to the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) to issue special debt letters.

Dony explained that the Patriot Bond and the Red and White Bond were designed as investment instruments that can be used by the public and investors to participate in financing national development.

Therefore, the decision to buy the product is entirely in the hands of investors.

"The government and Danantara are committed to implementing all investment policies in accordance with the principles of transparency, good governance, and respecting the rights of the public in making investment decisions. Therefore, information that mentions the obligation to purchase for certain groups of the public is not true and has no basis," he said.

Previously, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa also denied the issue that said Indonesian citizens with assets above Rp3 billion are required to buy bonds issued by Danantara.

According to Purbaya, the government is actually preparing various incentives so that the instrument is attractive to investors, not requiring the public to buy.

"There is no obligation, but it will be given incentives so that it is attractive for people who have money, roughly like that. As far as I know, it is not mandatory until now, when I attended a meeting at the Palace, but I don't know if it has changed. As far as I know, the president has never said it is mandatory," said Purbaya.
