JAKARTA - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) strengthens its commitment to reducing household-based emissions through collaboration with Bank Sampah Muria Berseri Kudus. This initiative is an expansion of the Pay Your Installment Program with Your Garbage which encourages household waste to have economic value while supporting environmental sustainability.
BTN Risk Management Director Setiyo Wibowo said that as a bank that has financed millions of homes in Indonesia, BTN has a strategic role in encouraging changes in people's behavior from home.
"BTN believes that emission reductions can start from home. Through collaboration with local waste bank communities, we want people to feel that depositing waste at BTN is more profitable while also helping to protect the environment," said Setiyo during a visit to the Muria Berseri Kudus Waste Bank, Wednesday, June 3.
Setiyo explained that waste management from households is very important. From data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), households contribute around 46.3 percent to national waste production or equivalent to 34.1 million tons per year. However, only 31.3% or about 10.7 million tons of waste have been successfully managed.
Through this cooperation, added Setiyo, the public can participate in waste management by depositing inorganic waste such as plastic, cardboard, aluminum, iron, and glass. The waste will be converted into economic value that will go directly into the BTN account.
Until March 2026, the Pay Your Installment Program with Your Garbage has collected more than 1,261 kilograms of garbage from 21 housing clusters and will be expanded to 8 provinces and 15 cities in Indonesia.
BTN Commercial Banking Director Hermita added that this program also strengthens BTN's closeness to the community through services that are present in daily activities.
"BTN wants to be present not only when people buy a house, but also support new habits that provide economic benefits while maintaining environmental sustainability," said Hermita.
