JAKARTA - The government has confirmed that the export agency PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) will apply to all trade sectors without exception for any country, including the United States (US).

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that DSI will later function to monitor export and import activities, including detecting potential under invoicing practices in international trade.

"No (there are no exceptions), if the DSI is all sectors," he told the media, quoted by Thursday, May 28.

He explained that the existence of DSI will help the government in overseeing the difference in trade data between countries which has often caused differences in the recording of exports and imports.

"Well, with DSI we will monitor it. Maybe in three to six months we will see the pattern," he said.

On the other hand, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa ensured that the implementation of DSI would not remove the function of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) in supervising export-import activities.

According to him, the customs will continue to carry out the task of examining international trade as it has been done so far.

"It's a report of all sorts. Later he (DSI) will do the trading, but the import and export that checks customs. So it doesn't mean that the customs function is gone," he said.

He also said that until now there has been no special direction from the President regarding the possibility of changing customs authority in the implementation of DSI.

"I have never received any instructions from the President about that. And the President seems to have never discussed it in the future," he explained.

Purbaya added, the government is actually trying to strengthen the role of customs in the future so that its performance is more optimal.

"Actually the President said that we would strengthen customs. That means it's still the same but it will be improved again. Like in the President's speech, if he doesn't say it, his role will definitely be removed," he added.
