JAKARTA - The government has officially prepared a tax incentive policy for writers by setting a final income tax (PPh) rate of 1.5 percent and this policy is part of the economic stimulus package planned to be launched in the second semester of 2026.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the policy was a realization of President Prabowo Subianto's campaign promise to provide support to writers and the national book industry.

"First of all, of course, related to taxation for writers, we have decided to provide tax incentives for writers to be given a final tax of 1.5 percent, because this is a campaign promise of the President, so this will be implemented immediately," he told the media, Tuesday, May 26.

He explained that the rules will later be included in the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) which is currently being prepared by the government.

According to Airlangga, this tax facility applies to all writers who publish books with a registered and clear International Standard Book Number (ISBN).

"Whoever makes the book. The ISBN is clear," he said.
