JAKARTA - The Central Management of the Islamic Economic Society (MES) for the period 1447-1452 Hijriah was officially inaugurated in Jakarta, Sunday (24/5). The new management is asked not only to pursue global rankings, but to ensure that the Islamic economy feels the benefits for the community.

The inauguration was led by the Chairman of the PP MES Ma'ruf Amin Advisory Council. He assessed that the future of Indonesia's Islamic economy is still wide open.

"Today I say that the future of the sharia economy is bright, not dark," said Ma'ruf.

The 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia said that the sharia economy has contributed around 30 to 40 percent to the national economy. Indonesia is currently ranked third globally.

However, Ma'ruf asked MES to prepare a strategy so that Indonesia can rise to the first position in the world. He also reminded that Islamic economics should not stop at the business of making a profit. According to Ma'ruf, the principle of sharia must prioritize public service and public welfare.

"Sharia exists as a guidebook so that innovation runs well, brings justice, and no people are harmed," he said.

Chairman of the General (Ketum) of PP MES Rosan Roeslani said the new management must dare to enter into real work. He assessed that big ideas do not mean much if they are not translated into programs that can be felt by the community.

"Thinking, discourse, vision, mission without implementation is only a hallucination. Islamic economy should not only be big in numbers, but small in real impact," said Rosan.

Rosan emphasized that MES should not only be proud of Indonesia's statistics and position on the world's sharia economy map.

According to Rosan, who is also the CEO of Danantara, organizations must be able to formulate schemes that help the lower classes. One example he highlighted was how the time for saving pilgrims in the region could be reduced from 15 years to one or two years.

He asked all managers to make the benefits for the people the main measure of every program.

"At every meeting of the board, I hope that there is one thing that is always put forward, namely whether this program will really be felt and provide great benefits to all Indonesian people," said Rosan.
