JAKARTA - Director of Perum Bulog Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said that by mid-early May 2026, the absorption of domestic farmers' rice had reached 2.4 million tons of rice equivalent for strengthening the government's rice reserves (CBP).
Rizal said that this achievement is part of the national target of 4 million tons of rice equivalent by 2026 as the government's assignment in supporting food security and stability of domestic supply.
"And until May 6 (2026), we have reached more than 2.4 million tons (of rice equivalent grain absorption). So it has almost reached about 60 percent of the total target of 4 million tons," said Rizal in Jakarta, Wednesday.
He emphasized this when talking to a number of Student Executive Bodies of All Indonesia (BEM SI) in a direct review of the actual condition of the government's rice reserve stocks managed at the Bulog Sunter Warehouse, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
Rizal said that the success was supported by the synergy between the central government, local government, field agricultural extension (PPL) of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the TNI/Polri apparatus who were directly involved in escorting the absorption in the field.
Bulog also implements a policy of absorbing wheat and rice with certain quality standards, namely only the harvest that has reached the optimal age to maintain the quality of the product produced.
This approach ensures that the rice absorbed has a good level of maturity so that it produces higher quality when processed and stored for a certain period of time.
In an effort to achieve the target, Bulog implements a pentahelix strategy by involving various stakeholders including academics and the media as part of supervision and transparency of performance.
In addition, students are also encouraged to play an active role as independent supervisors through educational activities and field visits to directly understand the national food logistics system.
Bulog currently manages a widespread network of warehouses throughout Indonesia to store government rice reserves as part of the food distribution and stabilization system.
He said that the total number of warehouses owned reached 1,555 units with a storage capacity of around 3.7 million tons, so that some of the additional needs were met through the rental of external warehouses.
To accommodate the increase in stocks, Bulog has rented additional facilities with a capacity of close to 2 million tons to ensure that all the results of the absorption of farmers' grain can be absorbed properly.
The government also provides support for the construction of 100 new warehouses in 2026 which are prioritized in leading regions such as Nias, Natuna, and Morotai to strengthen national logistics distribution.
This step is also aimed at reaching areas that do not have adequate storage facilities so that the distribution of rice reserves can be more equitable and efficient.
Overall, added Rizal, the national rice stock managed by the food SOEs has now reached around 5.23 million tons and is considered sufficient to maintain food security until next year.
Bulog emphasized that all the rice stored belonged to the government as a national food reserve consisting of premium and medium rice for the needs of price stabilization and community assistance.
