JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the construction of the Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung Toll Road as part of strengthening the connectivity of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) main corridor.

Two priority sections, namely Section 1 Kramasan-Sungai Rengas and Section 2 Sungai Rengas-Pangkalan Balai are targeted to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said the toll road project has great benefits to support community mobility and logistics distribution in Sumatra.

"We continue to support the development of this project so that it is completed on time because it provides great benefits for the community," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, May 6.

The Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung Toll Road (Kapalbetung) has a total length of 111.69 kilometers and is part of the JTTS network.

The Kayuagung-Palembang route along 37.62 kilometers has been operational, while the continuation to Betung along 69.19 kilometers is still in the construction phase.

The construction of the Palembang-Betung Toll Road is divided into three sections. Section 1 Kramasan-Sungai Rengas has a length of 21.5 kilometers, Section 2 Sungai Rengas-Pangkalan Balai along 33 kilometers and Section 3 Pangkalan Balai-Betung along 14.69 kilometers.

Currently, the acceleration of development is focused on Section 1 and Section 2 because it is considered strategic in strengthening the connectivity of the Palembang urban area to the northern region of South Sumatra and supporting the smooth flow of cross-provincial logistics.

Based on the latest progress, Section 1 noted that land acquisition had reached 95.43 percent with construction progress of 92.07 percent.

Meanwhile, Section 2 noted that the progress of land procurement was 95.58 percent and the construction progress was 89.88 percent.

Both sections are targeted to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.

Section 3 of the Balai-Betung Base currently records a land release progress of 86.15 percent with a construction progress of 51.82 percent. The section is targeted to be completed in early 2027.

The construction of the Kapalbetung Toll Road is carried out through the Government-Business Cooperation (KPBU) scheme by the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Hutama Karya (Persero).

Construction work for Sections 1 and 2 is carried out by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, while Section 3 is carried out by PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur or HKI.

Overall, the toll road project has an investment value of around IDR 14.98 trillion with a concession period of 50 years.

The presence of the toll road is expected to reduce the travel time from Palembang to Betung from around three hours to around one hour, as well as increase the efficiency of logistics distribution and economic growth in South Sumatra.
