April 2026 Inflation Reaches 0.13 Percent, Air Transportation Tariff Dominates Price Increase

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that inflation in April 2026 reached 0.13 percent on a monthly basis (month to month/mtm).

The increase is reflected in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) which increased from 110.95 in March 2026 to 111.09 in April 2026.

BPS Distribution and Services Statistics Deputy Ateng Hartono said that on a calendar year basis (year to date/ytd), the inflation rate had reached 1.06 percent.

"In April 2026, inflation was 0.13 percent on a monthly basis or an increase in the consumer price index from 110.95 in March 2026 to 111.09 in April 2026. In calendar year or year to date, inflation was 1.06 percent," he said in a press conference, Monday, May 4.

He explained that the largest contributor to monthly inflation came from the transportation group, which experienced a price increase of 0.99 percent with a contribution of 0.12 percent to overall inflation.

Ateng added that the main driving factor was air transportation tariffs, which accounted for 0.11 percent, followed by gasoline at 0.02 percent.

Apart from transportation, several food commodities also trigger inflation, such as cooking oil with a contribution of 0.05 percent, tomatoes at 0.03 percent, as well as rice and rice with lauk which each contribute 0.02 percent.

However, a number of commodities still have a deflationary impact on April 2026, including broiler chicken meat with a deflationary contribution of 0.11 percent, gold jewelry of 0.09 percent, chili rawit of 0.06 percent, and broiler eggs of 0.04 percent.

Meanwhile, from the component side, inflation in April 2026 was mainly driven by the core component which recorded an increase of 0.23 percent with a contribution of 0.15 percent, as well as the main commodities in this group include cooking oil, rice with lauk, mobile phones, fried chicken, laptops or notebooks, and granulated sugar.

Meanwhile, the government-regulated price components experienced inflation of 0.69 percent with a contribution of 0.13 percent, which was mainly triggered by an increase in air transportation tariffs, gasoline, household fuel, and machine kretek cigarettes.

On the other hand, the volatile price component experienced deflation of 0.88 percent with a contribution of 0.15 percent deflation due to the decline in the prices of several commodities such as broiler chicken, sweet peas, broiler eggs, and red chili.
