JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) through PT PLN Batam has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) with PT Digitalland Service One (DayOne) in the Kabil Industrial Estate, Batam. For information, through this PJBL, PLN will supply electricity with the largest capacity for data centers in Indonesia to date, namely 511 megavolt ampere (MVA).

Head of BP Batam and Batam Mayor, Amsakar Achmad, emphasized that the readiness of infrastructure is a key factor in attracting global digital investment. According to him, the integration of land availability, energy reliability, and legal certainty makes Batam a strategic region that is competitive at the regional level.

"BP Batam is committed to presenting a conducive investment climate through accelerated licensing and the provision of integrated supporting infrastructure. The entry of this large-scale data center project proves that Batam is ready to become a digital hub for the world," said Amsakar, quoted Monday, April 27.

DayOne's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jamie Khoo, stated that the company's expansion in the Batam area is part of a strategy to expand capacity and build a regional digital infrastructure platform in Asia.

"This expansion is an important milestone in our strategy to build one of the leading digital infrastructure platforms in Asia. The ongoing development in Batam, from Nongsa (industrial area) to Kabil (industrial area), reflects the increasingly strategic role of Batam in the company's regional ecosystem," said Jamie.

He explained that this is also part of the company's steps to develop the Singapore, Johor, and Riau (SIJORI) model as an integrated cross-country data center platform in the Southeast Asian region.

"As we expand our development in Batam, we continue to increase capacity to provide large-scale and high-performance data center services to meet the growing demand for cloud and advanced computing in Asia Pacific," added Jamie.

In line with this, the President Director of PT PLN Batam, Kwin Fo, stated that the PLN Batam electricity system is ready to serve large-scale customers such as DayOne. This readiness is supported by adequate supply, system reliability, and maintained service quality.

"We hope that this cooperation will benefit all parties and contribute significantly to regional economic growth and improving the investment climate in Batam. We are committed to maintaining the reliability of electricity supply and service quality to support the needs of industry on an ongoing basis," he concluded.
