Government Assures to Continue to Maintain Rice Prices at the Farmer Level

JAKARTA - The government through the National Food Agency (Bapanas) ensures that the Government Purchase Price (HPP) of farmers' rice at Rp6,500 per kilogram (kg) will still be implemented, for the absorption of the target of 4 million tons of rice equivalent from domestic production throughout 2026.

The rice HPP of IDR 6,500 per kg has been stipulated in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Procurement and Management of Domestic Rice/Rice and the Distribution of Government Rice Reserves for 2026-2029.

The provision is in accordance with all quality and has entered the harvest age at the farmer level.

Minister of Agriculture and Head of Bapanas Andi Amran Sulaiman said that this step was taken to maintain the welfare of Indonesian farmers.

"Stay. We will keep HPP at Rp. 6,500 for grain. So God willing, farmers will be taken care of," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, April 14.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the average purchase price of rice throughout 2025 has never been below Rp6,500 per kg.

BPS recorded the lowest price in April 2025 with an average of Rp6,712 per kg.

The rice farmer's price index in BPS historical data has always been maintained consistently above 140 points since July 2025 until now.

The latest index in March 2026 was at 144.52 and this was still higher than March last year which was at 137.94.

At the same place, Perum Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani explained that the achievement of the realization of rice equivalent absorption had reached almost half of the national target.

He even predicted that the total stock of Bulog rice would reach 5 million tons in no time.

"Bulog's absorption achievement to date, April 13, 2026, is around 48.7 percent, of which 48.7 percent is around 1.9 million tons of rice for absorption on April 13," said Rizal.

If the realization of rice equivalent absorption is compared to the realization of January-April of the previous year, the realization of absorption in this year which is 1.9 million tons has exceeded 6.5 percent of the previous achievement.

The realization of absorption from January to April 2025 was recorded at a total of 1.7 million tons.

"As for Bulog rice stocks until April 13, 2026, they are 4.727 million tons. Well, this is our prediction in the near future. Our prediction in the next week or even 10 days will reach 5 million tons of Bulog rice stocks in Bulog warehouses," said Rizal.
