PU Minister will not Negotiate about Rp12.7 Trillion Efficiency

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo ensures that he will not negotiate with President Prabowo Subianto regarding the budget efficiency policy of Rp. 12.7 trillion which is applied in his ministry.

"Oh, negotiations. According to me, no, I don't want negotiations, what's the point of negotiations?" said Dody, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, April 11.

According to Dody, the government's efficiency measures are believed to have a strong basis for consideration, so as an assistant to the President, he chose to implement the policy optimally and with full responsibility.

"As a general assistant, if I am asked to work, of course. If I don't have money, I will tell you that I don't have money. That's it. And that's what 2025 experience told me that it can be done easily," he said.

He also emphasized that the director general ranks at the Ministry of Public Works have the ability and experience to manage the program so that they can effectively adjust the implementation strategy for development.

With this ability, the ministry can make adjustments to programs flexibly, including shifting the focus to the development of community-based infrastructure which is considered to have a more direct impact on the wider community.

"My directors are all champions in their fields. So they can easily switch from several places to meet community-based infrastructure," he said.

Dody admitted that community-based infrastructure is one of the important sectors that remain prioritized because it is able to provide hope and economic benefits for the lower community groups in the current economic conditions.

He ensured that these programs would continue to be seriously considered despite budget constraints, so that the benefits of development could be felt evenly by the community.

In addition, Dody also emphasized that there was no plan to have a special communication with the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa regarding this matter.

"I don't, there is no plan to meet Mr. Purbaya, that's not it. It's enough, we already have experience in 2025, it's safe," he said.

Dody said that he had experience dealing with greater budget efficiency conditions previously so that he did not feel worried about implementing the current policy.

"But this is it, I used to be much more efficient than this. So I've never been afraid. I mean, of course, the President must have done the efficiency, there must be a reason, right?," said Dody.

He added that this experience was an important capital for the ministry to continue to carry out programs effectively despite budget adjustments.

It is known that the 2026 budget of the Ministry of Public Works will be cut by IDR 12.71 trillion so that the budget ceiling will decrease from IDR 118.89 trillion to IDR 106.18 trillion as part of the adjustment of government fiscal policy.

This pruning was carried out based on the Minister of Finance's letter number S-181/MK.03/2026 dated April 1, 2026 in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's instructions regarding the mitigation of global conditions, and maintaining the 2026 State Budget (APBN) deficit to remain under control.
