JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Ferry Juliantono inaugurated the operationalization of the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDMP) in Atuka Village, Central Mimika District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province, Thursday, April 9.
Ferry emphasized that the presence of the central government in Atuka was a form of responsibility to be present directly in the community.
He ensured that the Ministry of Cooperatives through the Rolling Fund Management Institution (LPDB) was ready to help provide management assistance as well as access to financing and capital.
"This cooperative does not belong to the central government, it belongs to the Papuan people, to the Atuka people. Our task is to help so that the people's economy can grow and prosper," he said in a statement to the media, Thursday, April 9.
In addition, Ferry also encouraged the development of distribution centers managed by BUMD as well as licensing of solar fuel filling stations for fishermen in the coastal areas of Central Papua.
At the end of his speech, he stated that Mimika and Central Papua were ready to become pilot areas for the development of the Red and White Village/Village Cooperative throughout Indonesia. He hopes that all residents of Kampung Atuka can join as members of the cooperative so that the economic benefits return to the local community.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Central Papua, Deinas Geley, gave a deep appreciation for the presence of the Minister of Home Affairs and his entourage in Atuka Village, Mimika Regency.
The Deputy Governor called this event a historic moment because for the first time since Indonesia's independence, a minister set foot directly in the village.
"I say that this is the first time that the state has been present in Atuka Village. The Atuka people who picked us up with great joy are part of the Republic of Indonesia," said Deinas Geley.
The Deputy Governor of Central Papua emphasized that the development of Central Papua Province should not only depend on large-scale investments, but must be based on the economic strength of the people through cooperatives.
