JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the packaging of 2 kilogram (kg) rice for the food supply and price stabilization program (SPHP) is currently still in the design stage, before being distributed massively to the public.
On the sidelines of reviewing the Panaikang Bulog Warehouse, accompanied by Deputy President Director (Wadirut) of Perum Bulog Marga Taufiq in Makassar, Sunday, April 5, Amran said that SPHP rice had actually started to be distributed to the public in 5 kg packaging, while smaller packaging was being prepared as a form of adjustment to the actual needs in the field.
"SPHP rice (5 kg packaging) has been distributed now. The smaller (2 kg) packaging rice is being designed, it will be fast," said the Minister, quoted by Antara.
According to him, once the design of the 2 kilogram packaging is completed, the approval process will be carried out immediately without delay, even he confirmed that he was ready to sign on the same day for the acceleration of distribution.
"Immediately, this is so finished, I immediately signed it. If it's finished today, I'll sign it today," he said.
He also emphasized that the policy was part of the government's commitment to serve the community, in accordance with the President's direction that every people's need can be responded to quickly and accurately.
Regarding prices, the Minister of Agriculture ensured that SPHP rice in 2 kilogram packaging would still be sold at a maximum price of IDR 12,500 per kilogram, so that it would remain affordable for the wider community without price differences.
He also ensured that the government's rice reserve stock (CBP) is currently in a safe condition to supply the SPHP program throughout 2026.
"What is clear is that we have now distributed food aid. What is clear is that there is a lot of rice. If the size is just regulated," he said.
He added that the procurement of small packaging was based on the aspirations of the community, especially daily workers, so that the government tried to present more flexible options according to purchasing ability and needs.
"Yes, that is the public's request. Because it is impossible for Bulog's request, it is impossible for Bapanas (National Food Agency) to request. If the people need it, we act for the people because there are daily workers, various kinds," said Amran.
