JAKARTA - Indonesia and South Korea are strengthening their strategic partnership through the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding (MoU) with a total investment value of 10.2 billion US dollars or around Rp. 173 trillion.

He explained that the cooperation covers various sectors, such as energy and green transition, solar energy, carbon capture and storage, renewable energy, and industry and manufacturing, including steel, batteries, and environmentally friendly transportation.
In addition, Airlangga said that investment also includes the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, property, and infrastructure, including the development of the Bumi Serpong Damai area.
He also added that cooperation also involves business associations such as Kadin and KCCI to strengthen the commitment of the business world.
Furthermore, Airlangga said this cooperation also includes the battery supply chain and investment in the technology manufacturing sector.
He explained that some of them included the continuation of investment from POSCO, as well as investment offers from Lotte Group which invited Danantara to participate as an investor.
Airlangga also touched on the results of President Prabowo's visit to Japan which resulted in several MoUs with investment values reaching 23.6 billion US dollars or around Rp. 401 trillion.
"This sector is energy and energy transition, oil and gas, especially the Masela project, commitment to investment. Then industry and downstream, finance and financial inclusion, SMBC and Pegadaian, and also institutional investment through JETRO and also Kadin, and creative industries, and manufacturing," he explained.
Airlangga said that overall, President Prabowo's visit to South Korea and Japan resulted in investment commitments of IDR 574 trillion.
"This is a very significant figure because Indonesia in this uncertain geopolitical situation is still an attraction for investors from both Japan and Korea," he said.
He stated that currently, Japan is in third place in investment and trade with Indonesia, while South Korea is in seventh place.
Looking ahead, Airlangga said the two countries hope that Indonesia can play an increasingly important role as a co-investor, especially with the Sovereign Wealth Fund.
