JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded the sale of tickets for the 2026 Lebaran Transportation continued to increase as it entered the reverse flow phase after Eid al-Fitr.

The high mobility of the community makes the train the main choice because it offers certainty of travel time.

As of March 25, 2026 at 10.00 WIB, tickets that have been sold reached 4,342,343 or 96.5 percent of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for the period from March 11 to April 1, 2026.

This figure reflects the high public interest in using the train transportation mode during the Lebaran season.

KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said this trend shows a pattern of people's travel that is increasingly planned.

"Train travel has continued to increase since mid-March and is now entering the reverse flow phase. Trains are a convenient, scheduled, and reliable option," Anne said in an official statement, Wednesday, March 25.

On the long-distance train service, ticket sales have even exceeded capacity with 3,713,781 tickets or 104 percent of the total 3,571,760 seats.

Meanwhile, Local KA recorded sales of 628,562 tickets or 67.8 percent of the total capacity of 926,936 seats.

During the period from March 11 to 24, 2026, KAI served 3,125,958 customers on Java and Sumatra, consisting of 2,629,334 long-distance train customers and 496,624 local train customers.

A significant spike occurred in the last three days, namely on March 22 with 242,773 customers with an occupancy of 150.7 percent, increasing on March 23 to 247,025 customers with an occupancy of 154.1 percent, and again rising on March 24 to 250,616 customers with an occupancy of 153.3 percent.

Entering March 25, the upward trend continued. Until the morning, as many as 205,975 long-distance train customers had been scheduled to depart with a temporary occupancy rate of 126 percent and still increasing.

Anne explained that the occupancy rate of more than 100 percent is common in railway operations.

"In one trip, one seat can be used by more than one customer on a different relationship. This scheme makes the number of customers served can exceed the capacity of the available seats," he explained.

To accommodate the high demand, KAI also presents a Silaturahmi Promo program in the form of a 20 percent discount for executive class train tickets that are valid for purchase and departure from March 25 to April 1, 2026.

A number of trains with high booking rates during the Lebaran period include the Airlangga Train, the Joglosemarkerto Train, the Sri Tanjung Train, the Bengawan Train, the Kahuripan Train, the Rajabasa Train, and the Jayakarta Train, which are the public's favorite for medium to long distance travel.

Despite the high demand, KAI ensures that travel opportunities are still available through various alternatives, such as choosing a different departure date, alternative relationships, to utilizing the continuation travel scheme or connecting train.

"With the capacity that is still available, the public can plan the return trip more flexibly so that the trip remains comfortable, smooth, and enjoyable with the train," concluded Anne.
