JAKARTA - PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Adera Field has discovered a new ABB-145 oil well in the Abab Structure with an initial production potential of 505 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
The production potential was known through an initial flow test with a 13 mm clamp on March 1, 2026 at 15.00-18.00 WIB. This test also recorded gas flow reaching 5.096 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
After the flow began to stabilize, the team conducted a multi rate test (MRT). The test results estimate a stable production rate of 129 BOPD and 1.8 MMSCFD of gas after optimal operation.
"The discovery of this well is the result of the team's continuous efforts to bring innovation in exploration activities. Safety at work remains a priority in every job so that the optimal contribution given supports national energy security," said General Manager of PEP Zone 4 Djudjuwanto, quoted Monday, March 23.
He explained, the ABB-145 well is a development well or infill well which is included in the RK Drilling 2026 program. The well shaft started on January 31, 2026 and the drilling and complex activities were completed on February 28, 2026.
The location of this well was known thanks to the success of the ABB-140 well drilling in 2023 and ABB-143 in 2025 which showed the potential of a stratigraphic play in the northeast part of the Abab Structure.
One of the breakthroughs made in determining the location of the ABB-145 well was the utilization of the latest 3D seismic data in the Abab Field which was acquired in 2023. This data provides a more detailed picture of the subsurface conditions compared to previous interpretations which still rely on 2D seismic data.
The data were analyzed and integrated with existing well data, including reservoir performance from previous reference wells. The results of the integration became the basis for determining the placement of ABB-145 wells to pursue the continuation of the reservoir that has been proven in previous wells.
Senior Manager Subsurface Development & Planning PEP Zone 4 Reza Nur Ardianto said the discovery of the new well proves that the opportunity to find new oil and gas potential is still open through an integrated subsurface approach and the use of better data and technology.
"We will continue to conduct studies so that this potential can be optimally developed and identify other potential opportunities around the Abab structure as an effort to contribute to strengthening national energy resilience," said Reza Nur Ardianto.
