JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, assessed that the global crisis due to the impact of geopolitical conditions that occurred actually accelerated Indonesia's steps in realizing food and energy self-sufficiency.

When presiding over the plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday, March 14, President Prabowo assessed that the current global conditions forced the government to accelerate strategic steps that had actually been planned for a long time.

"In my opinion, the crisis actually accelerates our transformation plan. In the end we are forced to accelerate. We understand the problem, we have always wanted food self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency. We have been heading there. But now it will accelerate," said President Prabowo, quoted by Antara.

The Head of State explained that the government has long been aware of the importance of shifting to renewable energy and the utilization of energy sources originating from within the country.

According to President Prabowo, the various challenges that arise are actually a momentum to accelerate national transformation and encourage self-sufficiency efforts to be carried out faster and more intensively.

"We already know that we have to shift energy to renewable energy, to the energy we have ourselves. We already understand that. This accelerates. So this forces us to work harder," said President Prabowo.

In addition, President Prabowo said Indonesia has various resources that can be used as alternative energy, including vegetable fuels derived from palm oil, cassava, and corn.

President Prabowo said Indonesia also has great potential in the development of other renewable energy, such as geothermal and hydropower.

"We have palm oil, we can turn it into solar, it can become ethanol. We can from sugar cane, we can from cassava, we can from corn. We have all of this. We have a lot of geothermal. We can use water power, hydro, mini hydro, a lot," said President Prabowo.

In the plan, the government targets the development of solar power capacity of up to 100 GigaWatt (GW) in the next two years.

President Prabowo said that the land requirement for the project is estimated to reach around 100 thousand hectares, of which some of the potential has been identified.

"We will carry out very fast development of solar energy, which we plan to do 100 GW which we target must be completed in the next two years. 100 GW is 100 thousand megawatts. This means that we need in general 100 thousand hectares," said President Prabowo.

In addition to the development of renewable energy, the President also conveyed a new giant gas field that was found in Andaman, namely off the northern coast of Aceh which could strengthen national energy resilience.

Prabowo believes that Indonesia has a considerable strength of resources to face various energy challenges in the near future.

"We also found a large gas field in Andaman which has been found and will be worked on in a short time by Mubadala. We will also soon open the Masela field, also a very large gas field," said President Prabowo.

With the wealth of natural resources owned, President Prabowo is optimistic that Indonesia is able to face various global challenges while strengthening the foundation of national independence in the food and energy sectors.
