INDRAMAYU - Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Laode Sulaeman conducted a working visit to the Pertamina Balongan Refinery, Indramayu, West Java, to ensure the sustainability of energy stock and distribution during the Ramadan and Idulfitri (RAFI) 2026 period.
During the visit, Laode ensured that the fulfillment of energy needs, both Fuel Oil (BBM), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and crude oil in the RAFI period had been running well and in a safe condition.
"Both for crude oil, then also for fuel stocks, LPG, all available and the public does not need to panic with the current conditions. And also we are making innovations, among others, by utilizing optimal fuel according to needs," said Laode to the media, Thursday, March 12.
Laode added that the refinery, which was built in 1994, has a refinery processing capacity of 150,000 barrels of stream per day (MBSD).
The Balongan refinery also has a Nelson Complexity Index (NCI) of 11.9, or as a crude oil processing unit with the highest complexity in Indonesia.
"So what is called sophisticated is when the refinery has a high NCI and there are units that produce petrochemical products," continued Laode.
Most or 82 percent of Balongan Refinery Products are distributed to the Jakarta and West Java regions for the Balongan Integrated Terminal, Cikampek Fuel Terminal and Jakarta Integrated Terminal (Plumpang).
Meanwhile, the distribution to other regions is 12 percent and the export of Decant Oil to Singapore is 6 percent.
Furthermore, he added, based on historical data and projections from March 9 to April 1, 2026, in the West Java region, gasoline (gasoline) fuel will experience an increase in demand of 9.6 percent due to increased personal vehicle mobility during homecoming, as well as Avtur demand which increased slightly by 0.5 percent.
The demand for LPG also increased by 2.86 percent due to household activities during Ramadan.
The demand for industrial fuels increased by 7.9 percent.
Meanwhile, demand for diesel decreased by 27.3 percent due to operational restrictions on logistics vehicles during the period of homecoming and return flows.
