JAKARTA - PLN Nusantara Power through its subsidiary, PLN Nusantara Renewables, strengthens its commitment to supporting the national energy transition through the development of the Karangkates Floating PV Plant located at the Sutami Dam, Malang Regency, East Java.
For information, the Karangkates Floating PV Plant was developed with a capacity of 100 MWac or 133 MWp through the developer entity PT Nusantara Guodian Karangkates Indonesia (NGKI).
PLN Nusantara Power President Director Ruly Firmansyah said that in terms of development, this project has passed a number of important milestones.
"After finalizing the planning and preparing the feasibility study in the 2021-2022 period, one of the latest milestones is the implementation of the Soft Launching Ceremony on February 10, 2026, which marks the movement of the project to the construction phase," he said in a statement to the media, quoted on March 12.
The KKPR PV Plant, AMDAL, and KKPR SF documents have been completed, while several advanced permits such as the PPKH PV Plant SF, IPSDA, and some components of LUA/RAUA are still in the process of obtaining with a target completion in March 2026.
The arrangement of KJA (Keramba and Floating Nets) has also been completed on January 31, 2026.
On the engineering side, the design approval process is still ongoing. On the procurement side, the floater material for a capacity of 5 MW has been on site, accompanied by the fabrication process of PV modules, inverters, and floater.
PLN Nusantara Renewables Corporate Secretary Ndaru Tri Hatmoko also explained the benefits of the Karangkates Floating PV Plant.
"The Karangkates Floating Solar Power Plant is expected to provide great benefits for the energy system and the surrounding community. In the project material it is explained that this plant has the potential to provide electricity for around 100,000 households and reduce carbon emissions by up to 181,700 tons of CO2 per year," added Ndaru.
In addition, this project is projected to open around 600 jobs, improve the economy of the surrounding community, attract international investment and funding, and add tourist attractions in Malang Regency.
The utilization of the reservoir area itself is planned to be 71 hectares or about 5.3 percent of the Karangkates Reservoir area.
