JAKARTA - Danantara Indonesia is accelerating the plan to hold three red plate airlines, namely Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, and Pelita Air. This consolidation is targeted to be completed in the first half of 2026.
Managing Director of Stakeholders Management of the Anagata Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency, Rohan Hafas, said that the acceleration of holding was crucial in the midst of global aircraft supply constraints.
"Hopefully, yes, it will be in the first semester of 2026, because it is very crucial to get extra income without adding aircraft," Rohan said in a discussion with the media at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, Thursday, February 26.
Rohan explained that this merger will form an integrated system ranging from ticket booking, loyalty point management (mileage), to the passenger registration process.
According to Rohan, the integration allows for more flexible passenger transfers between airlines within a group when there is excess load, rather than having to release it to competing airlines.
In addition, Danantara also highlighted the current practice where the three state airlines often serve the same popular routes, but the seat occupancy rate is only around 60 percent.
Through holdingization, frequencies on busy routes such as Jakarta-Surabaya will be reduced so that one flight can be optimally filled, similar to the international airline alliance scheme.
"Actually, I want to buy a plane, but the plane is in line with anyone, any airline, usually 7 years. That's why the number one merger was better, merged so that the number of its fleet was efficient," said Rohan.
Regarding the form of consolidation, Danantara is still studying whether the three airlines will be merged into one legal entity (PT) or simply form an operational alliance.
The calculation includes tax aspects, bookkeeping, to the complexity of company mergers.
"Therefore, it must be calculated, not just join or ally. Because it is a matter of tax, bookkeeping, and combining it is not easy," said Rohan.
Rohan said that even though it still stands as a separate entity, Danantara plans to unite a number of supporting functions. Maintenance systems (maintenance), ground handling services, to the use of aircraft crews will be directed to be in one common ecosystem.
"So the decision is based on the final result, its efficiency, how much, which is more efficient? Combining into one PT, or a coworking alliance, collaboration only," he said.
