JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the signing of the Joint Development Agreement (JDA) for the development of the semiconductor ecosystem is part of Indonesia's strategic efforts to position itself within the global industrial structure.

Airlangga made the statement while accompanying President Prabowo Subianto on a working visit to the United States.

In the agenda, the two witnessed the signing of the first phase of the JDA worth 4.89 billion US dollars which has the potential to grow to 26.7 billion US dollars.

"This Joint Development Agreement is not just a financial investment. It is part of Indonesia's strategic repositioning in the global industrial architecture. We want to ensure that Indonesia is part of the global semiconductor value chain, strengthen industry independence, and increase bargaining power in the global supply chain," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, February 25.

He said the agreement was a concrete step in strengthening Indonesia's role in the global technology sector and accelerating the transformation towards high-value-added industries.

Airlangga said this cooperation involves a National Strategic Project (PSN) run by PT Galang Bumi Industri as a domestic partner, together with companies from the United States, Essence Global Group, LLC. and Tynergy Technology Corp, which play a role as strategic technology developers.

"The development of the semiconductor ecosystem is part of the national strategy to deepen the industrial structure and increase Indonesia's competitiveness in the global value chain. Indonesia is no longer positioned only as a technology market, but as a production base and development of strategic technologies," he said.

According to him, this investment is projected to be able to create around 5,000 skilled jobs, as well as encourage the acceleration of technology transfer and the increase in human resources capacity.

Airlangga said that these job opportunities would be concentrated in the fields of engineering, wafer manufacturing, advanced materials, and new energy systems that have high added value and long-term impact on the national industry.

The scope of collaboration includes the development of manufacturing infrastructure, the development of renewable energy and green industries, programs to improve labor competence, and joint research and development of cutting-edge technology.

The partner company from the United States specializes in innovative plasmonic processes for producing ingot wafers and solar cells, as well as integrating advanced energy amplification technologies, including the development of fusion ignition technology and other new generation sustainable energy sources.

He added that this collaboration is expected to open access to Indonesia to leading technology while accelerating the strengthening of the national innovation ecosystem.

"This Joint Development Agreement is not just a financial investment. It is part of Indonesia's strategic repositioning in the global industrial architecture. We want to ensure that Indonesia is part of the global semiconductor value chain, strengthen industry independence, and increase bargaining power in the global supply chain," he said.

Airlangga said this step also confirmed the government's commitment that every international partnership would have a real impact in terms of creating quality jobs, technology mastery, and accelerating economic transformation towards a sustainable high-tech industry.
