JAKARTA - Indonesia's efforts to modernize the national payment system have again received global recognition.

The success of Bank Indonesia in presenting a fast, efficient, and inclusive digital payment infrastructure is considered a best practice that has attracted the attention of various international financial institutions, including the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

The President of the IsDB, Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's leadership, especially Bank Indonesia, in strengthening the role of Islamic economics and finance at the global level.

The award is reflected in the support and development of a number of IsDB priority projects in Indonesia, especially in the health sector.

In a meeting that took place on the sidelines of the IsDB Townhall Strategic Lecture on Digital Transformation forum in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, February 12, IsDB also confirmed its commitment to expanding cross-sector collaboration, including in strengthening the connectivity of the payment system between member countries.

On that occasion, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo emphasized that digital transformation does not solely depend on technological progress.

"The success of digital transformation is not only determined by technology, but also by strong governance, cross-sector synergy, sustainable innovation, and leadership at all levels of the organization," he said in a statement quoted on Sunday, February 22.

He explained that the implementation of the Blueprint for the Indonesian Payment System (BSPI) has produced significant changes in the national payment landscape.

According to him, the optimization of QRIS, BI-FAST, and the development of cross-border payment systems make transactions faster, cost-effective, and increasingly accessible to the wider community.

Looking ahead, Perry said Bank Indonesia continues to accelerate steps towards an Integrated Digital Central Bank by integrating the use of data and artificial intelligence, digitizing decision-making processes, and strengthening digital governance and work culture.

He added that this step is aimed at producing more adaptive policies while increasing operational efficiency.

Perry conveyed Indonesia's experience in developing QRIS and BI-FAST is expected to serve as a reference for IsDB member countries in building systems and organizations that are more agile and responsive to change.

The series of activities in Jeddah began with a bilateral meeting between Governor of BI Perry as the IsDB Alternate Governor from Indonesia and the President of IsDB to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.

During the meeting, Perry emphasized Indonesia's commitment as an IsDB strategic partner, including through Indonesia's role as one of the IsDB sukuk investment holders and the largest capital contributor.

Perry said this cooperation will continue to be strengthened through more concrete collaboration in promoting digital transformation and inclusive economic development, as well as providing mutual benefits for member countries.
