Pertamina: Energy Imports USD 15 Billion Through Tender, LPG Portion from the US Can Rise to 70%

JAKARTA - Pertamina stated that the import of energy in the Indonesia-United States trade agreement - worth USD 15 billion - would be carried out through a transparent tender and bidding mechanism. President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri emphasized that imports were still needed due to a natural decline in production.

"Pertamina is part of a trade agreement... where we have agreed to import energy of USD 15 billion," Simon said in the United States, Friday, February 20, 2026. He called this import scheme a "bridge to national energy independence", while explaining the production conditions. "Pertamina together with the government, SKK Migas, and partners continue to strive to increase national lifting production. However, due to natural decline, imports are still needed to meet domestic needs," he said.

Simon emphasized that the procurement process was not carried out through direct appointment. "It needs to be emphasized that the import process will be carried out through a transparent tender and bidding mechanism, not direct appointment," he said.

He also said that diversifying energy sources is important to ensure competitive prices. In the context of LPG, Simon revealed that the current US share is dominant and has the potential to increase. "Currently, about 57 percent of LPG imports come from the United States, and this figure has the potential to increase to 70 percent," he said.

Pertamina, said Simon, has signed a number of MoUs with partners from the US, including ExxonMobil, Chevron, KDT Global Resources, Hartree, and Halliburton, including cooperation in oil field recovery, technology transfer, and human capital capacity building.

Even though the agreement has been signed, the implementation is said to be pending finalization. "Pertamina is waiting for finalization in the next 90 days before implementation begins, while still complying with all applicable regulations," said Simon.
