JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk through PT Medco Intidinamika (MI) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the exploration of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) projects, especially in the development of biodiesel based on High Acid Crude Palm Oil (HACPO) and bioethanol.

Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis explained that the scope of cooperation includes feasibility studies and studies from technical, economic, market, environmental aspects, to strategic discussions and utilization of facilities owned by the parties.

"This MoU also opens up opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and technology in the development of biofuels, including HACPO-based biodiesel, Used Cooking Oil (UCO), and Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), as well as plans to reactivate the bioethanol plant in Lampung owned by PT Medco Ethanol Lampung (MEL)," he said, Tuesday, February 10.

John added that the signing of this MoU is a strategic step to accelerate the development of a sustainable national bioenergy ecosystem.

"This collaboration is an important step for Pertamina NRE in expanding its renewable energy portfolio, especially biofuels. The development of HACPO-based biodiesel and bioethanol not only strengthens energy resilience, but also optimizes the potential of existing biofuel resources in Indonesia," continued John.

In order to enrich this exploration of cooperation, Pertamina NRE and Medco also explore the potential of bioenergy technology available globally.

One of them is through Envien Group, a global bioenergy company that has a strong track record in the development of biodiesel and bioethanol in various countries.

The exploration with Envien Group as a potential strategic partner and technology partner, is expected to enrich the perspective of technology, operations, and international best practices in the development of bioenergy projects in Indonesia.

Medco Energi President Director, Hilmi Panigoro, hopes that this cooperation can build constructive synergy in exploring opportunities for bioenergy development.

"We view the synergy with Pertamina NRE as a positive step and commitment to building a long-term partnership that supports energy resilience and sustainability," said Hilmi.
