JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa responded to the findings of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the alleged existence of a safe house (safe house) used in the case of alleged bribery and gratification in the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).

He assessed that illegal operations generally have special locations that are difficult to track and are used as a gathering place for parties involved.

"If the dark operation must have a safe house. A place where they can gather undetected by anyone," said Purbaya, quoting Antara.

Purbaya explained that safe houses usually have strict rules, including restrictions on access for certain parties.

Regarding why the existence of the safe house was only revealed now, the Minister of Finance said that he had actually known about it for a long time. However, the process of revealing the alleged information is the authority of law enforcement.

"I think it's been a long time. I've known for years that there is a safe house. But it's not time to open it. I don't know, I'm not a law enforcement officer. But they have given me a signal," he said.

According to him, only a few people knew the location of the safe house and the information he received at that time was considered not serious.

"I know because people there are calling me, giving information. But I think it's not serious. It turns out that it's really serious," he said.

The state treasurer considers a number of corruption cases involving employees of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) in recent times to be an alarm for the Ministry of Finance to improve the system and internal governance.

As previously reported, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects employees of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance providing a safe house in relation to the case of alleged bribery and gratification related to the import of KW goods.

"It is suspected that these individuals from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise have prepared a safe house to store items such as money, then the metal," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, Thursday (5/2) evening.

Budi explained that the safe house was allegedly deliberately rented specifically. Therefore, he said the KPK would ensure the identity of the owner of the safe house.
