JAKARTA - The development of an integrated electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem through cooperation between the Joint venture Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited/CATL-Brunp-Lygend (CBL) and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) is considered a strategic step to strengthen Indonesia's future industry.

This project is designed to build a comprehensive EV battery supply chain, from upstream to downstream, covering manufacturing, material processing, to recycling. These efforts are expected to increase the added value of national mineral resources while strengthening Indonesia's position in the global battery ecosystem.

CBL Indonesia President Director, Wu Zhihui, said this cooperation is a form of commitment by CBL and CATL Group to make Indonesia one of the important regions in the electric vehicle battery industry ecosystem in the world.

"Through this cooperation, we want to build an integrated battery supply chain in Indonesia, from manufacturing to recycling, and make Indonesia one of the important bases in the global battery ecosystem," said Wu in a joint hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, February 2.

This project is also seen in line with the agenda of industrial downstreaming and national energy transition, as well as opening up opportunities for technology transfer, development of domestic industrial capacity, and improvement of human resources. Support for policy and oversight by the DPR is an important factor in ensuring that projects run in line with national development directions.

In addition, Wu Zhihui expressed his appreciation to the Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the support provided since the initial stage of the project, including the presence of members of the DPR in the groundbreaking ceremony for the CBL-IBC-ANTAM cooperation in Karawang in June 2025.

"The support of the Commission XII of the DPR RI since the initial stage of the project has become an important factor for the smooth and sustainable development of this battery industry," he said.

Globally, the consortium has a strong track record in the development of integrated battery supply chains from upstream to downstream, including post-use battery recycling technology.

"We want to bring this experience and technology to Indonesia to support economic growth and provide long-term benefits for the community," said Wu.

Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives expressed its support for the development project of the electric vehicle battery ecosystem resulting from the collaboration of CBL, IBC, and ANTAM. He appreciated the steps of the three companies that built the industry in an integrated manner from upstream to downstream.

"We are grateful that there are companies that move integrated from upstream to downstream," said one of the representatives of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

On the same occasion, IBC President Director, Aditya Farhan Arif, emphasized the importance of regulatory support and incentives to encourage the development of the integrated electric vehicle battery industry from upstream to downstream in Indonesia.

"So IBC and IBC partners are committed to building this battery value chain integrated from upstream to downstream, so we hope there will be privileges in the calculation of TKDN from our products later," said Aditya.

It is known that in this project, PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB) acts as a joint venture between IBC and the CBL consortium located in Karawang, West Java, and is an important part of the development of the national electric vehicle battery industry.

The development of the battery manufacturing facility in Karawang is currently continuing to show progress and is targeted to enter the operational phase in the third quarter of 2026, in line with the strengthening of the integrated EV battery ecosystem in Indonesia.
