JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) ensures the availability of national fish in a safe condition to meet the needs of the community throughout the holy month of Ramadan until the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in a Working Meeting with Commission IV of the DPR RI in Jakarta, not long ago.
"We ensure that the availability of fish in all major consumption centers is in a safe state," said Trenggono as quoted from a written statement, Thursday, February 5.
Trenggono emphasized that the government wanted to ensure that people could carry out Ramadan prayers calmly, supported by the supply of quality fish protein and stable prices.
According to Trenggono, his party has prepared strategic steps to maintain the supply of national fish. For the period from January to March 2026, the production of national fish is projected to reach 3.57 million tons.
The production comes from the aquaculture fisheries sector reaching 2.05 million tons and capture fisheries of 1.52 million tons.
"We are fully committed to ensuring that the community's need for animal protein, especially from the fisheries sector, can be met well and at affordable prices," he said.
In addition to maintaining production momentum, Trenggono said, his party has also carried out strict monitoring of the availability of fish in eight major cities that are national consumption centers. Based on the results of the monitoring, the status of fish availability nationwide is in the safe category.
As a mitigation step, he continued, his party also prepared security for supply through the optimization of frozen warehouse stocks or cold storage and increased the distribution of cultured fishery products.
"We ensure that distribution between regions continues to run smoothly to maintain the balance of supply at the consumer level," he explained.
He hopes that support and synergy with the House of Representatives will continue to be maintained so that efforts to secure fish supplies can run optimally during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr. Thus, the community's food needs are still met.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Titiek Soeharto, appreciated the government's policies carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Bulog, Perum BUMN and ID Food in maintaining the stability of food supply and prices.
"We ask the government to strengthen cross-ministry/agency coordination to ensure the smooth distribution of food," he said.
