JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) through the Cidanau-Ciujung-Cidurian River Basin Office (BBWS C3) together with the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Marga Mandalasakti carried out rapid handling after the flood that had flooded the Tangerang-Merak KM 50 toll road.
Emergency handling was carried out by building a temporary embankment on the side of the toll road using geobags and Movable Concrete Barrier (MCB) for approximately 300 meters.
The installation of the temporary embankment is aimed at holding the water runoff so that it does not flood the toll road again.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo assessed that public safety is the top priority in handling hydrometeorological disasters.
"We are committed to providing flood control infrastructure support, both through emergency measures and long-term handling, so that risks can be minimized," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, February 4.
Currently, the Tangerang-Merak KM 50 toll road, which is a crucial access for the mobilization of goods and passengers from Java to Sumatra and vice versa, has recovered and can be safely passed by all vehicle categories.
In addition to handling on the toll road, BBWS C3 also took emergency steps in a number of areas in the Province of Banten that were affected by floods and landslides due to the increased discharge of the Cidurian River.
A total of two mobile pump units with a capacity of 250 liters per second were deployed to overcome the puddle at the Sabulussalam Pondok Pesantren, Kresek District, Tangerang Regency, so that teaching and learning activities could resume.
Head of BBWS Cidanau-Ciujung-Cidurian Dedi Yudha Lesmana said that disaster equipment and materials had been prepared to support emergency handling in the field.
Even so, the determination of the handling method still takes into account the field conditions, including access to the affected location.
The mobile pump infrastructure is still on alert as a precautionary measure considering that the discharge of the Cidurian River is still relatively high and has the potential to cause subsequent flooding.
Meanwhile, for the landslide along about 200 meters in Carenang Village, Cisoka District, which caused the collapse of eight residents' houses, BBWS C3 strengthened the river banks to prevent further damage.
In handling the Cidurian River emergency, BBWS C3 reinforced the riverbanks using the installation of a weir.
The embankment is a galvanized wire mesh filled with stones to hold the river flow, reduce soil pressure and prevent further landslides without obstructing the flow of water.
For long-term handling, BBWS C3 has prepared a permanent dike design for the Cidurian River through the reinforcement of the dike with the installation of a parapet and the construction of a flood gate as a more comprehensive flood control solution.
"We continue to coordinate with the Tangerang Regency Government and related agencies to ensure that all emergency handling steps are effective, so that community activities and regional connectivity can immediately recover sustainably," said Dedi.
