JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) stated that the price of people's cooking oil (MinyaKita) has begun to show a downward trend and is expected to return to the highest retail price (HET) in February 2026 as distribution to the market is optimized.

Director General of Domestic Trade (Dirjen PDN) of the Ministry of Trade Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan said that this price reduction occurred after the government strengthened the distribution obligations of producers to State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), as stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 43 of 2026.

"According to Permendag 43, all producers must distribute at least 35 percent to Bulog and IDFOOD. We are quite sure, because there has been a decline," said Iqbal as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 29.

Based on the Ministry of Trade's monitoring through the Basic Needs Market Monitoring System (SP2KP), the national average price of MinyaKita last week was still in the range of IDR 16,800 per liter.

However, the price has now dropped to Rp16,500 per liter.

Iqbal said that the price was not in accordance with the HET which was set at Rp15,700 per liter.

However, he is optimistic that the price of MinyaKita will continue to fall as the distribution from the State-Owned Food Company continues to run smoothly.

"We hope that if this is optimal, later this month it can reach the highest retail price that we have agreed on (Rp15,700)," explained Iqbal.

He emphasized that MinyaKita is one of the segments of the national cooking oil market.

Besides MinyaKita, there are also premium cooking oil and secondary brands (second brand) circulating in the community.

According to him, national consumption of cooking oil reaches around 250 thousand tons per month, which is divided into the three segments.

MinyaKita itself is specifically intended for middle and lower-middle-income households as well as micro-business actors in the culinary sector.

The government hopes that with the strengthening of distribution and supervision, as well as the involvement of state-owned food companies, the stability of the MinyaKita price can be maintained ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026.
