PT Semen Indonesia Persero Tbk (SIG) has supplied 115,609 tons of cement for the construction of the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP), the largest and most modern oil refinery project in Indonesia.

Corporate Secretary of SIG Vita Mahreyni said that SIG's involvement in the Balikpapan RDMP project was carried out through the supply of V DuPro+ HSR type cement used in the existing refinery improvement work.

"Participation in the development of RDMP is also a form of support for President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita to encourage national independence through energy self-sufficiency, as well as continuing downstream and industrialization," said Vita, quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 25.

RDMP Balikpapan is a National Strategic Project which is part of the policy to strengthen national energy security and independence. The refinery is projected to have a processing capacity of around 360 thousand barrels of oil per day, making it the largest processing facility in the country.

The development of Balikpapan RDMP is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita agenda which targets reducing energy import dependence through increasing domestic processing capacity and strengthening the downstream oil and gas industry.

The project, which has been under construction since 2019, includes crude oil reception facilities, processing, and energy supply chain support systems. The modernization of the existing refinery is aimed at increasing the volume and quality of fuel oil, as well as adjusting to stricter environmental standards.

According to Vita, the cement, which SIG contributed to the RDMP project, is designed for construction work in extreme environments and has been used in various large-scale energy and transportation infrastructure projects.

A number of projects that have been recorded using the product include the Karangkandri Power Plant, Pacitan Power Plant, Suralaya Power Plant, Pelabuhan Ratu Power Plant, Adipala Cilacap Power Plant, Indramayu Power Plant, Tenayan Riau Power Plant, Kalibaru Wharf, and Youtefa Bridge.

The government places the development of refineries as an important instrument to reduce fuel oil imports, while strengthening national energy resilience in the medium and long term.

President Prabowo Subianto, when inaugurating the Balikpapan RDMP, expressed his hope that the dependence on imported fuel oil (BBM) could continue to decrease.

RDMP Balikpapan has a total investment of IDR 123 trillion. The project aims to modernize existing refineries so that it will increase oil processing capacity, produce high-quality and environmentally friendly fuels, encourage the downstream petrochemical industry and strengthen national energy resilience.

The Balikpapan Refinery RDMP allows managing up to 360 thousand barrels of oil per day. This capacity is equivalent to 22-25 percent or a quarter of national needs.
