JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that he has access to monitor the savings accounts of officials in the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu).

He explained that this authority was carried out in order to strengthen internal supervision and become one of the evaluation materials in the rotation and promotion process.

"I have access (accounts) for my officials, everything. But what I check is up to level III, because those who want to go up are there. Later if those below want to go up, we'll see again. I also see level I," he told the media, Thursday, January 22.

According to Purbaya, the examination of the savings account is outside the State Organizer Wealth Report (LHKPN) which must be submitted by officials to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"Outside the LHKPN. We also see whether the LHKPN is reasonable or not, and compare it with the money in the bank from year to year, how is it like," he said.

Based on the monitoring that has been carried out, Purbaya admitted that he had not found a significant spike in the savings balance of the Ministry of Finance officials, especially those sourced from the tax sector.

He assessed that the condition showed that officials were quite proficient in managing their finances.

"I have checked all their savings in the past few years, including those here, it seems that the savings balance figures are normal, including those processed (KPK) yes. So I feel like a tax person, customs and financial people are good at managing the balance in savings," he said.

However, Purbaya reminded officials not to be complacent and emphasized that supervision not only comes from one source, but can also be carried out through other channels and by other parties.

According to him, integrity and honesty are the main keys to not facing problems later.

"So the important thing is that you are clean, straight, there should be no problems. We will think about the welfare problem so that you can sit down calmly, that's enough without having to do things that are not desirable," he added.

Furthermore, Purbaya emphasized that no matter how cleverly someone hides money that is not his right, in the end it still has the potential to be revealed, and the Ministry of Finance has implemented three layers of supervision through the governance system and risk management.
