JAKARTA - The government is preparing to reorganize the national food institution. The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is planned to be merged into the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) and Perum Bulog, in line with the plan to change the status of Bulog from a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) to a government agency.
The President Director of Perum Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, emphasized that the merger of Bapanas does not mean the dissolution of the institution, but rather the transfer and integration of functions so that the management of national food is more coordinated.
"Yes, it will be merged, not dissolved. It will be merged into Bulog partially, two deputies, one deputy will enter the Ministry of Agriculture," said Rizal at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 21.
Rizal said the change in Bulog's status was still waiting for the completion of the revision of Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food, which is currently being discussed by the DPR RI.
The revision of the regulation is the legal basis for strengthening the role of Bulog as a state instrument in the food sector.
"Later it will be included in the change to the Food Law. Well now in the process of drafting, the essence of Commission VI is also encouraging Commission IV to immediately realize this law," he said.
In the new institutional scheme, Bulog is designed to be a stand-alone or sui generis body. This institution will later be directly under the coordination of President Prabowo Subianto.
"Then later it was also discussed regarding Bulog in the future, it is hoped that it will become a sui generis institution or Bulog under the presidential level, under the presidential institution in this case," said Rizal.
Regarding the possibility of changing the name of Bulog after changing its status to a government agency, Rizal said the decision was entirely in the hands of the President.
