Misbakhun Reveals Three Names of BI Deputy Governor Candidates

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mukhamad Misbakhun, said that the government had sent a Presidential Letter (Supres) to the House of Representatives (DPR) regarding the filling of the Deputy Governor of the Bank Indonesia.

He added that the surprise had been discussed in the DPR Consultative Body (Bamus) meeting and was subsequently assigned to Commission XI.

Commission XI, continued Misbakhun, is scheduled to hold an internal meeting to arrange the schedule for the feasibility and suitability test (fit and proper test) for the candidates for Deputy Governor of the Bank Indonesia.

"The surprise was just discussed at Bamus and assigned to Commission XI, tomorrow Commission XI will hold an internal meeting to arrange the schedule for the fit and proper test," he told the media, Monday, January 19.

He added that there were three names proposed, namely Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono, Head of the BI Payment System Policy Department Dicky Kartikoyono, Assistant Governor Head of the BI Macroprudential Policy Department, Solikin M. Juhro

However, the schedule for the fit and proper test has not been determined and will be determined in the internal meeting of Commission XI.

"We will only determine the schedule," he said.

Misbakhun said that the process would be carried out in the near future and was sure to take place on weekdays.

"Yes, the point is this week, what day is Mau, the important thing is the working day," he concluded.

Previously, the Presidential Palace confirmed that the process of filling the position of Deputy Governor of the Bank Indonesia (BI) was officially underway.

The government has sent a Presidential Letter (Supres) to the DPR following the resignation of one of the deputy governors of BI.

From the three names proposed, Prabowo Subianto's nephew Thomas Djiwandono was included in the discussion radar.

The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that the mechanism for filling the position was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the law. The process begins after the resignation letter is received by the government.

"It started with a resignation letter from one of the Deputy Governors of the Bank Indonesia. According to the provisions, the position that was left must be filled immediately. The President then sent Supres to the DPR," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, January 19.

According to Prasetyo, the authority for the election is in the DPR through the fit and proper test. The government, he said, only proposes names for candidates to be tested by parliament.

"There are several names that have been sent. One of them is true, the Minister of Finance who was mentioned earlier," he said.

When asked who the BI official who resigned was, Prasetyo mentioned Yuda's name.

It is known that there is a member of the BI Board of Governors named Juda Agung.

However, when asked to detail the three names of the proposed candidates, Prasetyo admitted that he had not remembered all of them.

"Later I will check, I don't remember," he said briefly.

The inclusion of Thomas Djiwandono's name has come under public scrutiny.

In addition to his position as Deputy Minister of Finance, he is also a friend of President Prabowo Subianto whose candidacy is considered strategic amid the challenges of monetary stability and tighter fiscal-monetary coordination.

Furthermore, the DPR will schedule a feasibility test for the candidates for Deputy Governor of the Bank Indonesia proposed by the government.

The results of the fit and proper test will be the basis for determining the definitive official.
