JAKARTA - Senior Researcher at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Dradjad Wibowo assessed that the presence of Danantara Indonesia in the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) could be a breath of fresh air for the progress of the Indonesian economy.
According to him, this economic forum, which has not been attended by Indonesian leaders for 10 years, has a strategic role for the global economy.
"The return of Indonesia to this forum provides a fresh wind for the progress of the Indonesian economy. It is the right forum, the figures and strong people in the network of finance, investment, business, and innovation are there," said Dradjad Wibowo as stated in an official statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, January 17.
Previously, the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi announced that President Prabowo was scheduled to attend the WEF event in Davos, Switzerland, on January 19-23, 2026.
This forum involves leaders of world countries, entrepreneurs, academics, and civil society representatives with the theme "A Spirit of Dialogue".
According to Dradjad, Danantara's presence has a strategic role to explain national economic policies, with one role being its ability to manage state capital worth 1 trillion US dollars.
"The end is to build confidence, the trust of global investors to enter Indonesia," said Dradjad.
Dradjad said Danantara should be able to use WEF 2026 to explain to the world's conglomerates, state leaders, and technology innovators about the important role of this investment agency.
"The world giants must be clear, what kind of business climate we want to build with the Indonesian SWF (sovereign wealth fund)," said Dradjad.
Through his ability, according to him, Danantara can build the trust of investors and business actors in WEF 2026.
"For this reason, it should be guarded. After the WEF, prepare everything so that when their research or business intelligence comes, they see what makes them want to enter and be comfortable with the climate and ecosystem," said Dradjad.
For information, the President of the Republic of Indonesia has been absent from the WEF for 10 years, where the first president to attend was Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and gave a speech in 2011 about a green or environmentally friendly economy.
At this year's WEF, President Prabowo along with Danantara Rosan Roeslani CEO and a number of ministers, including Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, plan to attend.
Previously, Danantara Indonesia's Managing Director for Global Relations and Governance, Mohamad Al-Arief, said that the opportunity to attend the WEF this time would be optimized to explain that Danantara sees the WEF as a strategic space.
According to him, the WEF can bridge national interests and development with the perspective of access to global capital, where Danantara can build strategic and structured engagement.
"Our presence here is also to introduce ourselves institutionally. We also need a national strategic investment management body with good governance, and we are ready to become partners of the global partners that will be there later," said Mohamad Al-Arief.
