JAKARTA - The North Sulawesi Regional Police Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT) recorded 12 complaints of online fraud throughout 2025.

"We remind the public to be alert and cautious of various online fraud methods. Be careful with these very harmful online fraud methods," said Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol Alamsyah Hasibuan, accompanied by the Head of the North Sulawesi Police SPKT, AKBP Alfianto, quoted by Antara.

According to him, on the one hand, digital development facilitates business, but on the other hand, it becomes a gap for cyber criminals to carry out their activities.

"Recently, online fraud methods are increasingly diverse and difficult to distinguish from official information. Starting from sending APK files disguised as package couriers, digital wedding invitations, online shopping, stock trading to job offers with high commissions that result in material losses," he continued.

Some patterns that are often used by perpetrators to drain the victim's account include the perpetrator manipulating the victim's psychology by creating a sense of panic, for example 'your account is blocked' or an excessive sense of happiness, for example 'you won the lottery of hundreds of millions'.

The perpetrator also sends links that resemble the official website of banks or government agencies to steal personal data and passwords.

He urged the public not to click carelessly, ignore messages from unknown numbers that send suspicious files or links.

The public is also expected to verify official sources, never give OTP, PIN, or password codes to anyone, including those who claim to be bank officers, and activate the dual security feature on banking applications, social media, and whatsapp.

He said that the key to avoiding online fraud is thoroughness and not being easily believed.

"If there are community residents who are victims, immediately contact the bank to block the account and report to the authorities," he advised.
