JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has completed a hydro-oceanographic survey in the Jakarta Bay and Semarang waters as a strategic step to strengthen the planning of sea embankment development in the North Java Coast (Pantura) area.

Director General of Marine Spatial Planning of the KKP, Kartika Listriana, said that the survey carried out together with the TNI Navy Hydro-Oceanographic Center (Pushidrosal) was the scientific foundation for the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ) in drafting the technical design of coastal protection.

In the KKP statement received in Abu Dhabi, Thursday, Kartikamenyampaikan the completion of this survey is an important milestone in the government's efforts to overcome the vulnerability of the Pantura coastal areas to flash floods, erosion, and land subsidence.

Not only that, KKP will also utilize the results of the survey for the arrangement and development of coastal areas and coastal cities in the pantura.

"The challenges of coastal development are increasingly complex due to climate change, sea level rise, and land subsidence that occur quickly in various major cities," said Kartika.

He emphasized that the Jakarta Bay and the Semarang waters were the two areas with the highest vulnerability level in Pantura.

Therefore, scientific data-based interventions are said to be necessary to ensure the accuracy of infrastructure design and minimize environmental and social risks.

The survey, which took place from November 20 to December 29, 2025, included the collection of bathymetry (depth mapping), geophysical, hydrodynamic modeling, current and wave patterns, sediment analysis and sediment transport, to water quality.

The entire process is carried out in accordance with national and international standards to produce complete and accurate data.

The Commander of the TNI AL Hydro-Oceanography Center, Budi Purwanto, emphasized the full support of the TNI AL in providing data for the construction of sea dikes as part of a national strategic project.

Deputy I of the BOPPJ Sawarendro welcomed the completion of the survey.

According to him, the steps of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Pushidrosal are an important part of the government's efforts to overcome the chronic problem of flash floods and strengthen the resilience of coastal areas.

"This is an urgent need that is oriented towards disaster risk mitigation as well as strengthening the resilience of coastal areas," said Sawarendro.
