JAKARTA - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has thwarted the distribution of 1.314 million pieces of lobster clear seed (BBL) or benur which is suspected to be smuggled abroad throughout 2025.

This figure is lower than in 2024, where 6.44 million BBLs were successfully smuggled.

Director of Fisheries Resources Supervision of the Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision (PSDKP) KKP Halid K Jusuf said that this year his party has prepared several strategies for supervision in the fisheries sector.

For 2026, supervision is not only focused on the field, but also targets e-commerce through cooperation with e-commerce players and involves complaints from the community.

In addition to lobster seedlings, the Directorate General of PSDKP KKP has also thwarted the smuggling and trade of 5,400 turtle eggs throughout 2025.

"The failure of the smuggling of BBL was approximately 1,314 (million) heads. Then, for the failure of the trade in turtle eggs, there were approximately 5,400 pieces, that was in Pontianak, yes, West Kalimantan," said Halid in a press conference at his office, Tuesday, January 13.

Regarding the case of smuggling turtles, said Halid, will be directly subject to criminal sanctions.

Because, the trade in turtles and their eggs affects the sustainability of the turtle species in the future.

Moreover, turtles are protected species and are currently almost extinct.

"That, right, is one type of fish that is almost extinct. So, if the eggs are traded, it is the same thing as breaking the chain rather than the turtle quickly. So, for the perpetrators, we take criminal action," he said.

"Not only these two species, he continued, his party also oversees the use of other protected fish species.

In 2025, the supervision is focused on four types, namely stingrays, shark fins, turtles, and the circulation of invasive fish such as piranhas.

Meanwhile, in 2026, there are 25 species of protected fish that are the focus of supervision.

Throughout 2025, the KKP also managed to secure 551 stingrays that would be smuggled into China.

According to Halid, the action falls under the category of violation because the fish is a protected fish.

The smuggling of the fish is often found in West Kalimantan because the area is indeed a center of its trade.

"Then 2,135 kg for drug surveillance and 166 kg of fish feed are not in accordance with the provisions. Then the surveillance of dangerous fish types through e-commerce is approximately 1,250 tails," he explained.
