JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) reviewed the Kuala Simpang Market, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province, to ensure the acceleration of the recovery of the food sector and the people's economy after the flood.
The review was carried out together with Trade Minister Budi Santoso, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Regent of Aceh Tamiang Armia Pahmi as part of cross-sectoral coordination to handle the impact of disasters.
"The recovery of the people's market and the fulfillment of the basic needs of affected residents are priorities so that people's economic activities can immediately resume," said Zulhas, quoted by Antara.
Kuala Simpang Market is one of the 112 people's markets in Aceh that were affected by the flood. The largest market in Aceh Tamiang Regency accommodates 295 traders and has become a center of economic activity for the community since its establishment in 1982.
The government will complete the market cleaning process by the end of December 2025 through synergy between the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, local governments, and the Indonesian Army, so that trading activities can resume.
In addition to reviewing the market, Zulhas also visited the evacuation post in Sungai Liput Village, Aceh Tamiang Regency, to ensure that the distribution of humanitarian assistance was targeted.
The government distributed assistance in the form of 10,000 ready-to-eat food packages, 336 kilograms of clothing assistance, and 1.6 tons of sanitation equipment for flood-affected residents.
The assistance is the result of cooperation between the Coordinating Ministry for Food with PT Halalan Thayyiban and PT Bagus Peduli as part of the support of the private sector in handling disasters.
"The government will continue to monitor the recovery of flood-affected areas through the repair of basic infrastructure, strengthening food security, and meeting the basic needs of the community," said Zulhas.
The government stated that post-flood recovery in Aceh was carried out in a coordinated manner across sectors to maintain food stability and accelerate the economic recovery of the community in the affected areas.
