JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has recorded a significant increase in the number of public transportation users during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 (Nataru) transportation period.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said that during the period from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026, the total public transportation passengers reached 21,461,491 people or an increase of 12.48 percent compared to the previous Nataru period which was recorded as 19,079,881 passengers.

"This certainly shows that the implementation of Nataru transportation this year has run well in accordance with the policies and operational plans that have been prepared," he said in an official statement, Monday, January 5.

In detail, the number of air passengers during the 2025/2026 Christmas season was recorded at 4,768,675 passengers or an increase of 0.73 percent compared to the previous period which reached 4,734,198 passengers.

"Marine transportation recorded the highest increase with the number of passengers reaching 2,254,733 people or an increase of 43.42 percent from the previous 1,572,099 passengers," he said.

Meanwhile, rail transport served 7,573,881 passengers or an increase of 12.92 percent compared to the same period last year which recorded 6,707,053 passengers. Cross-over transportation also experienced a significant increase with a total of 3,725,343 passengers or an increase of 35.05 percent from the previous 2,758,565 passengers.

For road transportation, continued Dudy, the number of passengers on Nataru 2025/2026 was recorded as 3,138,859 people, while in the previous period it was recorded as 3,307,966 passengers.

In addition to passenger movements, the Ministry of Transportation also recorded an increase in vehicles entering and leaving Jakarta through toll roads by 3.39 percent. Meanwhile, vehicles entering and leaving the Jabodetabek area through arterial roads experienced an increase of 17.3 percent.

"In 2025/2026, the average travel time on the Cawang-Banyumanik toll road can be completed for 5 hours 4 minutes or down 5.24 percent compared to the previous year. As for the reverse flow, the travel time decreased by 10.1 percent," said Dudy.

Dudy said that the flow of vehicles leaving the Jabodetabek area through toll roads was dominated by a number of areas, such as Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Banten, Sumatra Island, and several areas in West Java, namely Puncak and Sukabumi.

During the 2025/2026 Nataru Post, the Ministry of Transportation monitored data at 1,549 node points and networks of all modes of transportation. The monitoring points consist of 222 terminals, 248 ferry ports, and 264 seaports.
